Introducing clean, renewable energy from sustainable domestic sources is central to combating climate change and addressing issues of energy security. Wind power is one of the most mature, cost effective renewable energy technologies and as such is important to the UK's energy future.
The cost of generating electricity from the wind has fallen dramatically over the past few years. Wind power is the cheapest source of renewable energy. Energy from the wind will become even cheaper in the future as greater experience is gained in manufacturing and developing this relatively new technology.
There are strict guidelines used by planning authorities to assess whether a wind farm will cause a noise nuisance. Unless a developer can prove these guidelines can be met, the wind farm will not be given planning permission.
As part of the design process extensive studies have identified sensitive habitats and species so that impact on these can be avoided and mitigation put in place to enhance the upland habitats.
